PANTHER JOURNAL #043
A trade moves your way. The screen shows a potential gain. You reach for the exit—and discover the contract has none before expiry.
That is a defining rule of Blockchain.com options, the product the company announced on October 20. For readers following Bitcoin ($BTC) and Ether ($ETH), the launch adds another way to express a short-term market view. It also makes the clock part of the commitment.
What Blockchain.com options launched
The company’s October 20 launch release, issued at 09:00 ET, announces options inside its Trading Account for eligible users. Initial expiries extend up to one week, with positions held through settlement and access restricted to supported jurisdictions.
The Block independently reported the launch at 10:31 EDT. Its report lists calls and puts on seven assets: Bitcoin, Ether, Solana ($SOL), Hyperliquid ($HYPE), Avalanche ($AVAX), XRP ($XRP) and TRON ($TRX). Funding is upfront in USD Coin ($USDC).
The practical story is in the purchase and exit terms, rather than the number of assets on the menu.
You cannot bank a temporary gain
Blockchain.com’s early-exit support page says buyers cannot sell, transfer or close these options before expiry. A potential profit on the screen does not create a right to lock it in. The market can move again, leaving a higher, lower or zero final payout.
Buyers also cannot change the strike or expiry after purchase. The provider retains exceptional cancellation or termination powers for circumstances including errors, legal restrictions and extraordinary market events; the applicable agreement determines any refund or termination payment.
Panther’s assessment: a trader accustomed to adjusting a position after entry needs to evaluate this product differently. Timing is a decision made at purchase. Being right temporarily is insufficient when the payout is determined later.
The $5 minimum is before fees
The purchase guide gives a current minimum premium of $5, excluding fees. It requires a verified eligible account, regional access and enough USDC in the Trading Account for the purchase and applicable charges. The displayed quote currently lasts 30 seconds; an expired quote must be requested again.
The fee guide describes an upfront fee calculated against the premium and a settlement fee when gross payout exceeds the premium. It also says the quoted premium contains a spread or mark-up that is not displayed as a separate fee.
Its example percentages are illustrative. They are not a verified universal tariff. Read the actual quote’s premium, fees and total cost before treating a potential payout as profit.
Read the commitment before confirming
For a prospective user, the useful checklist is compact:
- Confirm that your account and jurisdiction are eligible.
- Read the exact strike, expiry and payout information.
- Count the full upfront amount, including fees.
- Decide whether you can leave that amount committed through expiry.
These checks describe the product’s mechanics; they are not a recommendation to trade. We reviewed the published documentation and did not place an options trade.
Readers comparing derivatives can also use Panther’s perpetual-futures funding guide. A familiar trading interface should not substitute for reading each contract’s distinct terms.
The Panther takeaway
Blockchain.com has launched a short-dated options product whose buyer cannot exit early. That restriction belongs beside the headline about access and capped exposure.
Before choosing a direction, understand the commitment: when the payout is measured, what the full cost is and whether you can change your mind.
